Long Island Man Found High In Vehicle With Hypodermic Needle In Lap, Police Say

A Suffolk County man was arrested after allegedly being found lying in a vehicle with a hypodermic needle in his lap and for then resisting arrest.

Dion Hutchings, 25, of Syosset, was found around 840 p.m., Tuesday, March 17, on Sally Lane in Plainview, said the Suffolk County Police.

According to police, units responded to Sally Lane for reports of a suspicious person in a motor vehicle. 

When officers arrived, they allegedly found Hutchings lying back in the driver’s seat of a vehicle with a hypodermic needle containing a brown substance in his lap, police said.

 When attempting to talk with Hutchings, police noticed he was highly disoriented and under the influence of a controlled substance, police said.

When police attempted to enter the vehicle, Hutchings' tried to drive away, causing an officer to sustain injuries to his leg, elbow, and shoulder, police said.

 Officers were able to control Hutchings and place him into custody.

The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.

Police charged Hutchings with:

  • assault,
  • criminal possession of a hypodermic instruction,
  • criminal possession of a controlled substance, obstructing governmental administration,
  • and resisting arrest.

Hutchings will be arraigned when medically practical, police said.
